Photographing this engagement session in Dumbo Brooklyn was amazing!
Engagements in Dumbo hold a special place in my mind as I photographed there quite a few times when I first started my career as a wedding and portrait photographer in Westchester and Connecticut. When Claire-Marie and Scott chose to start their engagement photoshoot at Jane’s Carousel my eyes lighted up. Every time I get to photograph at a location I’ve been to before, I always try to see it in a different way to provide my clients with a unique lens on their engagement location. Photos riding the carousel are abundant, so I had to leverage the sunshine and the reflection the Carousel’s glass walls were providing. What about highlighting the textures – the exposed brick walls, the bridge structures to create a unique backdrop for their session? Regardless of the engagement location you choose, make sure your wedding photographer will be able to capture you both in a unique way. As one of my favorite quotes would say: “Don’t be afraid of being different, be afraid of being the same as everyone else.” -unknown
Claire-Marie and Scott will get married at Chateau at Coindre Hall in Long Island this Fall and what better way to share their story with you than having them share it themselves? Here is their story.
“My family was coming from France for a week. Scott proposed at the airport in front of my whole family (and my dad on Facetime!). It was such a special and unexpected moment.”
How did you meet?
We met on a Halloween night in Long Beach, NY. We met at the Minnesota bar which means even more to me (Claire-Marie) because I did an exchange program in Minnesota state and still have my host family part of my life.
What was the first thing you thought of when you saw each other?
We loved each other costumes! I was rainbow bright and he was a safari hunter with a huge stuffed gorilla on his back and I went to him to ask him to take a picture.
When did you know he/she was THE one?
We had a very special moment on a rooftop in Brooklyn, in front of a gorgeous sunset. We told each other how much we loved each other. This was 6 months into our relationship.
Tell us about the proposal.
My family was coming from France for a week with my 1-year-old niece. Scott proposed at the airport in front of my whole family (and my dad on Facetime!). It was such a special and sooooo unexpected moment. My family knew as he had asked my parents for permission which wasn’t easy since he doesn’t speak French and they speak very little English! We got to celebrate all together that week which made it even more special for me. I was so excited and couldn’t believe this had just happened. And we then all went out to have dinner at the restaurant he made a reservation at. Scott was nervous at the airport. He kept pacing around until my family came out from customs and he proposed!
Besides getting married what’s the one thing you are looking forward to on your wedding day?
Having a great time with our family and friends. Looking forward to celebrating our love with everyone!!
I hope you loved these summer engagement photos as much as I loved photographing them. And while you’re here, have a look around to other gorgeous weddings, elopements, and engagement sessions from around the Connecticut, Westchester, and New York City area!
